British Comedy Guide

Where have the comedy films gone?

I've been trying my hand at writing a few comedy feature films but in the current climate I don't hold out much hope for them as they are flat out comedies, not romantic comedies or comedy dramas. What has happened to the good old comedy films we once produced in this country? Long gone are the days of Python on the big screen. Alright Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. But Shaun of the Dead had its romantic element in there, although that can be forgiven, and Hot Fuzz just wasn't funny.

Ok, the Cottage was alright.

Moving over to the Other British Comedy forum.

forgive my spelling errors. again

The comedy film falls awkwardly between box office audiences, as far as the big producers are concerned.

Precious few directors are willing to take on the risk of a comedy production bombing because the associated stigma appears to be greater than for most other genres.

Honourable exceptions still come along occasionally but I have the feeling that this will increasingly be a budget production matter unless and until some new pythonesque or blackadderesque TV catalyst comes along.

Incidentally, where IS 'Blackadder, The Movie'...?

In other news, am I the only who found Hot Fuzz better and it holds up more than SOTD?

Also, I wish the BBC would release Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel with Chris O'Dowd, Anna Farris, Mark Wooton and the guy who played Shakespeare (sp?) in Doctor Who.

Correct spelling.

wrote 2 cou[ple more in the pipeline, feel i have more of a chance than the in the click world of tv.

Both great films, though Fuzz has one ending too many; no need for the whole 'station blowing up' bit at the end.

If you think it's good enough give it a go. The only trouble is no-one can write one.

Personally I thought Hot Fuzz stunk from start to finish, but good for the rest of you if you enjoyed it.

Not seen it, which after Shaun of the Dead was a conscious decision.

I switched Shaun of the Dead off after about the first 20 minutes or something when I hadn't laughed once.

Yeah, you didnt like it; I liked it, thought it was funny. Both Peggs films are, for me, great pieces of work, but you dont like them, so, there we go.
