Who are the wittiest band of all time? Page 4

Good reading Ian! Close but actually they are hardcore supporters of Participatory Economics. Their lyrics are very tongue and cheek.

Laughing out loud

It's a hockey analogy of sorts. To get it Oilers and Flames are two hockey teams in the NHL. Best of 7 series is how the finals are determined between the two winners of the east and west conferences.

Yes, I get it :)

I saw a band from Leicester years ago called Huge Big Massive but never got the elusive deal though they did appear on TV a couple of times. There are clips on YouTube if you are prepared to search them out.

I got a tape when they supported my mate's band in the early 90s and it's great, really funny.

A couple of lyrics I remember were:

'I'm not a fireman, but you light the fire, that's burning in my underwear.'

and one about being a policeman and 'taking down your particulars' :D

Half Man Half Biscuit, I agree were and still are great. Even some of their song titles:

Joy Division Oven Gloves
Bad Losers On Yahoo Chess
National Shite Day.

Listen to HMHB.

Are you people mad not to have mentioned THE obvious candidates?

XTC - wonderfully weird, clever, quaint and funny.

They also did a few albums as Dukes of Stratosphear when they went on strike with Virgin. Those are lyrically and musically witty in that it's a great piss take of psychedelia.

They inspired two Canadian bands well known for their comedy leanings - Crash Test Dummies and We might be Giants. Both appeared on the testimonial CD produced to tide XTC over during their long running strike.

Foo Fighters, Tenacious D & Spinal Tap (of course).

Chips From The Chocolate Fireball is one of my favourite CDs ever.

Same here. 'What in the World?' and 'Mole from the Ministry' are tracks to die for.

My eyes hurt.

Aye. (No pun intended.)

Yeah - XTC great at times.

How about The Sensational Alex Harvey Band?

And what about the John Otway Big Band?

John Otway

It had to happen.

I was trying to refrain from comment! Far too predictable!

Go on - see him. You know you want to!
