Bottom did a chess thing too, but nothing like this. I say until someone can give you definitive evidence of who did it before you, it's yours!

I love that chess game from Bottom.
Maybe I was thinking of that Fast Show one - though isn't that similar enough to make this a bit redundant?

It's similar, yes, but I think my one and The Fast Show one have got very different reasons behind the payoff. Although I'd be interested to hear others views on this.
I'll check out that 'classic' sketch later when I'm back home!
I wouldn't say this duplictaes the Fast show sketch. Only the set-up is the same: 2 guys playing chess. In the Fast Show it was merely a feeder for the 'fancy a pint' guy. In yours it is no more duplication that the Monty Python Dead Parrot sketch (man walks into a shop, hilarity ensues) is a duplication of the Monty Python Cheese Shop sketch (man walks into a shop, hilarity ensues).
Mind you, now someone has mentioned the possibility that it has been done, it is ringing vague Big Train bells but I can't think why.
I liked the original sketch, nice idea.
