In certain countries you can be imprisoned for turning to Christianity. How about that for tolerance. They do seem to have a big fear of Christianity.
Everybody is throwing useful but contemporary information into the argument but it is very complex and one major factor is the existence of Israel in the middle-east, it's ability to avoid or ignore UN sanctions and the ferocity of the UN on Arab countries which is in inverse proportion to that on Israel. There are many roots to this withering tree.

I never said they had a tolerance for our religions I just never heard it preached beyond their borders. In the 70's it was Bader-Meinhoff, Black September etc - now it is Al Qaeda
There's a lot more of them now though than there were in the 1970s.

I've still yet to see any of this oil we've supposedly snatched up. I keep hoping that North Korea's regime will finally wither and die, but I wouldn't shed a tear if they had to be knocked out by force. We have about 30,000 troops there on constant alert - care to join us? It's always been a foregone conclusion that any conflict in Korea would result in the destruction of Seoul almost instantly. Ever seen the amount of hardware and manpower North Korea keeps at the ready on the border. It'll be a bloodbath, hence the hesitation.

I think they've been screaming "Death to America" over there since before I was born. A friend of mine was was killed while serving as a UN peacekeeper in 1983 by our friends in Iran (via Hezbollah.)

There are a lot of places in Africa could use some help. But I don't think you'll see anyone making an effort unless the U.S. makes a big commitment and we're a bit busy at the moment. The sad fact is that there's almost no military in the world apart from the U.S. that can mount and sustain an extended action far from its borders.
