Have you ever seen Bananas, or Sleeper? They're ace, the Carry On Films, they're fun, but also deeply sad on a certain level (the tragic lives of those poor actors), and the writing, poor to be honest.
No, I haven't seen them. But I can safely say that they're not as good as the Carry On films, which had cracking writing and performances.

Having seen both, no they aint.
In fairness if you watched Woody Allen films after 1985 most of them sucked. The early ones were way better, and he was a surprisingly good standup, as well as being one of Sid Cesar's elite circus of top comedy writers.
I'd reccomend Bananas, maybe you'll still prefer Carry On, but miss Bananas on principle and you miss a treat.
Take The Money and Run. Bananas. Love and Death. Sleeper... All very funny films that even stupid people can enjoy.
Well I'll keep an eye out for it. I don't let my principles come in the way of comedy.

No, a real tragedy is an orphanage bursting into flames. Yes, he's got a bit rubbish lately, but nothing will ever diminish the power of those early masterpieces. Besides, how many artists ever really stay at the top of their game? Not many. Most suffer some sort of decline.
Not many end up shagging their adopted daughters though?

The key word being adopted. She wasn't his blood relative, and she was over the age of consent, so no problem.
