EXT. A ZOO
THE HEAD KEEPER IS SHOWING ROUND A TRAINEE, WHO IS CARRYING A MOP AND BUCKET.
KEEPER
Looking forward to your first day? We will ease you into it gently. You can begin by mucking out Rex.
TRAINEE
Rex?
KEEPER
One of our most popular attractions, Rex. Dozy old thing really, but everyone loves him.
TRAINEE
Oh, right, and Rex is....?
KEEPER
Just through here. There you go.
THE KEEPER INDICATES A DOORWAY. THE TRAINEE LOOKS IN, AND THEN LOOKS UP, AND THEN LOOKS UP HIGHER.
TRAINEE
That's... that's...
KEEPER
A tyrannosaurus, yes.
TRAINEE
But aren't they...?
KEEPER
Extinct? Yes, in the wild, I am afraid so. So, any questions?
TRAINEE
Won't it...? I mean, isn't it... er... dangerous?
KEEPER
Well, obviously when dealing with any wild animal it's sensible to take precautions. Here, if he gives you any trouble, just give him a prod with this.
THE KEEPER HANDS THE TRAINEE A STICK. THE TRAINEE LOOKS VERY DOUBTFUL.
KEEPER
And throw him a side or two of ox, that should quieten him down. Right, I'll leave you to it.
TRAINEE (ALARMED AT BEING LEFT)
Where are you going?
KEEPER
To organise the velociraptors' tea party.
THE TRAINEE LOOKS AGHAST.
KEEPER
I know, it's a bit cheesy, but the kids love it.
THE KEEPER BACKS INTO THE WALL, HOLDING THE TRAINEE BACK WITH AN EXTENDED ARM.
KEEPER
Watch out! Triceratops ride coming through.
A HUGE SHADOW PASSES ACROSS THEM.
KEEPER
Oh, and when you've finished mucking out, you can give the Vet a hand.
THE TRAINEE NODS, AS IF THIS DOESN'T SOUND TOO BAD.
KEEPER
He needs someone to give Rex his suppository.
THE TRAINEE LOOK IN AT REX AGAIN, AND GULPS.
END.
