Over the last few years I've noticed something on plastic packaging that tickles my curiosity.
On a lot of bathroom products, for example hair gel, the back blurb of the product will more often that not have a little picture of a 'tub with an open lid' and then a code of 12M next to it. Does anyone know what it means?
IIRC, that refers to the speed at which the plastic tub/container biodegrades.
I'm guessing it's good for 12 months after it has been opened.
But I don't wear gel or jewelery.
I wondered this very thing myself and I was told it was the life expectancy of the product once opened. I've always believed this to be true but perhaps Aaron is correct with his reply-I'm confused as well now!
Entirely possible. I don't have the slightest clue where I read it, so am not providing it as a definitive answer.

Quentin is right Winterlight. It refers to how long a product should be used after it is first opened. Once air starts getting to a product, it can form bacteria which can lead to icky infections once the perservatives wear off. Something with 12M means the product is good for 12 months. Hope this helps.
