Euro 2008

Who do people want to win? Who do you think is going to win? Who are Portugal going to knock out in the quarter final stage on penalties now England aren't in it?

I hope Spain do it this year, they've got a great squad. If Torres and Fabregas are on form I can see them going far.

I would love the Netherlands to win it but my head says it's going to be Germany, Italy or France. Spain are chronic under-achievers and it would be nice to see them get into the final for once but it would also be nice to have millions in my bank account too :D Hope Portugal go out in the first group stage and Ronaldo breaks several fingernails during his many dives!

I couldn't care less. :D

But.

I do fancy Luis Figo a bit.
Does he still play for Portugal?

He's retired and joined the old fogies rest home - same one as me :D

Dammit!!

Although, maybe it's time for a visit...

We did sweepstakes at work £5 take a team out of the hat, team finishes in the top 3 you get some money, it makes the cup a lot more interesting.

COME ON ITALY!!!!!

I really want to watch it, but I still feel bitter and pissed off about England.

Think I'll watch a couple of the juicey games, but I can't be arsed to follow it all the way through.

I'm supporting Russia, they ain't won anything in ages.

Holland for me.

Did you see they're printing the Sun in Polish during the tournament. Not just Polish though - there will be the usual one although it wouldn't make much difference because no-one ever looks at the words.

Spain all the way! Hopefully Reina, Arbeola, Alonso and Torres (Liverpool boys)can make their nation proud.Come on Spain!

Regardless of whether or not England are involved, it should still be a tournament full of top notch football. I fancy Portugal to win and have had a bet on them, as well as Torres for the Golden Boot. For anyone who does like a small flutter, and despite backing group winners proving to be a precarious endeavour in recent tournaments, I'd recommend a flutter on a double - Portugal and Spain winning their respective groups.

I'll be watching it. Now who do I really hate?

I'd better go and take my seat. Not the Spanish car!

Four years ago, when the last Euro Champs tournament was on, I was going through a bit of a gambling phase, and I actually won quite a lot of money, from various long shot bets, e.g. I predicted England would beat Switzerland 3-0, in one of their group games, which they did. I won a few simpler bets as well, e.g. I backed the boy-wonder, Rooney, to be England's top scorer, which he was. I might've won a damn sight more, if that referee hadn't disallowed Campbell's goal, against Portugal, as I'd done a few more bets, which could well have paid off, if we'd gone through, e.g. Rooney to be the tournament's top scorer. I even had a 20 pound bet with a Scottish bloke, on a music forum, whom I'd never even met, that England would win the tournament. I ended up having to send him a 20 pound note in the post.

As for this tournament, I think the winner will be either France, Portugal or Germany. I'll probably go for France, because they have a lot of players who may never play in another Euro Champs, due to age, who will want to make the most of it.

By the way, I heard Ruud Van Nistelrooy is 20-1 to be the tournament's top scorer. I know it's a long shot, but when you think, you'd make a hundred quid, just from putting a fiver on him, it seems very tempting, especially when you consider that he's another player who will want to make the most of what is probably his last chance to win this trophy.

That is rather tempting.

I have a fancy for France - they certainly have the strongest overall squad on paper. But that group puts me off having any bets to do with France, Holland or Italy. If Holland go through to the knock-out stages, 20/1 for Ruud will look very tasty indeed. But will he score many goals in the group stages? That group is what made me put money on Portugal, though I was tempted with both Germany and Spain.

Regardless, it should be a great tournament (from the 2nd game onward that is...).
