Biggest disappointments in Comedy?

Inspired by a catskills post, like many things; including the bible don't cha know.

What's your biggest disappointment in comedy?

The first one that springs to my mind is Bill Hicks... hey who just took a shot at me?

Finally saw him (on tape) after years of hype and I did not raise even one smile.

Watching Spinal Tap for the first time.
Made me smile a bit, but no laughs.

Not their fault necessarily. If I'd seen it when it was new I might have found it hilarious.

Yeah, I agree. I did laugh a few times, but it's nowhere close to the greatest of all time, for me personally.

The last series of That Mitchell & Webb Look. I can't remember laughing many times in that at all.

Police Squad! was also a disappointment for me. I love the Naked Gun films, and I'd never seen Police Squad until I bought it on DVD on the cheap after christmas, didn't find that funny either.

Did you burn the dvd in an angry fire of renouncement?

Tap is ace. Lived it up to the hype for me.

Nathan Barley, Bill Hicks for sure.

Red Dwarf 7 and 8.

The final Royle Family episode.

I should have done. Instead I've consigned it to a fate of sitting on my shelf and gathering dust for eternity. Ha!

Good shout on Nathan Barley, seefacts. Loads of people have told me how good it was, I watched the first episode and I really didn't want to subject myself to another.

Also - Ricky Gervais' Fame. I loved Politics and Animals but was pretty underwhelmed by Fame.

Have you tried Nathan Barley again?

Nah, does it get better after the first episode? I've been procrastinating like a bastard recently so I might watch another one if it saves me from working.

I watched it the first time 'round and liked it. Watch it a second time not long ago and loved it. Maybe it's a grower?

I just love it so I want everyone else to! :)

A LOT of people have said that when it was on they hated it, but have rewatched it all since, and now see how fab it was.

But don't you just fancy the one from The Mighty Boosh?

I'll give it another go then. If it puts off revision it can only be a good thing!

Same for me, all my friends thought it was crap when it was first aired, but now love it and, in fact, dont seem to remember hating it at all. Perhaps wizards shit their brains up.

For me Saxondale was a dissapointment. I liked it, but being such a big Coogan fan I was expecting to love it, but I just didnt. It was good, but that didnt feel like enough coming from the man who brought us the magnificence of Partridge.

Is the pope Catholic?

And I wasn't massively impressed with spinal tap, a well made movie, but not as good as everyone said it would be.
