Well what is it? A sitcom? Comedy Drama? Sketch show? You need to do some research and find out which companies might be interested in your stuff. For instance you might want to try the Indies like Baby Cow, Tiger Aspect, Hat Trick etc. Or go straight to the BBC. BBC Scotland especially seem to be doing a lot of comedy at the moment. As are ITV2.

Lots to choose from. It's up to you.

TV, Film, Radio?

Tiger and Hat Trick are unlikely to read material if you haven't got an in of somekind.

Sending material to the BBC isn't easy unless you have a name of someone.

Ah yeah, you're probably right about Hat Trick actually, I was "introduced" to them so bypassed the usual route. Not sure what Tiger's policy is though.

Before I knew anyone I just used to take note of producer's names on the ending credits of shows I liked, then phone the company that made the show to make sure they were still working there. Then I'd send the producer a nice neat hard copy through the post. We do a lot of emailing nowadays but I think an actual, tactile script is harder for a producer to ignore than an email, and maybe a better tactic for unknown writers to get their stuff read. I'm just thinking aloud here - maybe talking poo.

Anyone?

I prefer email - it's instant, and right to them personally.

My pet hate is my work being rejected or thrown away by someone who's probably a secretary.

The other problem is, no one works anywhere anymore. Every bugger is freelance.

I got in contact with a producer from Tiger last year. She was nice. It's just a shame of the e-mails I've sent I haven't had a response from her since December I think. *sigh*

Actually, I did too at some point. Lots of luck involved.

I would like to know how people find out producer's direct email addresses.

Just ring up the production company they work for and ask for it. It's worked for me before. The producer responded to my email in less that a day.

However, if they're freelance, like Seefacts said, it may not be that easy.

The problem is most producers are freelance, yeah, so they won't be contactable in a way they used to be, say, 20 years ago. Which is highly annoying.

The other issue is they try and fob you off so your script gets read by someone's assistant to an assistant to a PA's secretary - which is just insulting.

That's the problem I have with ringing a company, I just feel they will try anything to get around giving out a producers email. It's always worth a try though I guess.

I know that some people get lucky and guess producers emails, especially those with BBC email addresses. Not sure if it's as easy to do that as it once was though.
