Books on sketch writing Page 2

I don't see why books have to be about "need". Can't you read a book just because you find it interesting ? I like writing sketches - I've sold plenty of them to Treason, NewsRevue, and now Tilt, and various other projects coming up - and I find the craft of sketch writing interesting. So I like reading about it, and one day I might enjoy writing about it.

I'm not saying books are for everyone. Of course you can write sketches without reading a book about them. But I am surprised at the level of antipathy towards reading on this site, as if people reading books are just cheats looking for a magic formula to copy.

Never said you shouldnt read or learn about it; just that I dont think there are any books dedicted to how; and really the best thing you can do is to watch sketches and to write sketches. It would be very interesting to read a book dedicated to sketch writing, but are there actually any? And I for one like to read.

Hang on Phill, are we in the right seats? I'm promoting your guide and you are critical of it? :S

Sorry, I panicked when I saw my name in the same discussion as Ronnie Barker, Peter Cook and Fry & Laurie.

I think we're all in agreement then...
(1) You don't need to read a book about sketch writing to write sketches
(2) However such a book would be interesting
(3) As far as I know there isn't one. Which I find mind-boggling given the vast quantity of books that have published on all kinds of obscure topics.

All youve got to do now then is write one.
;)

I did, it wasn't very good.

It had lots of pictures, but no words.
