British Comedy Guide

Set in a museum.

Okay im making a sitcom for GCSE, ive decided to set it in a museum where there should be quite a few misunderstandings, events etc which occur to create comedy.

What my question is, is about main characters in sitcoms.

The comedy is going to arise from the museum owner ( a chacter like John Cleese in fawlty towers); i am also going to have an employee who is privleeged by the text for being the only normal person which the audience can empathise with. She/he will talk directly towards the camera as if no fourth wall "well, look where I work, its not that good you see. The museum owner is completely bonkers..."

I was wondering if this would be a good or bad idea and who exactly would be the protagonist here??? Is it the person where the comedy comes from, or the person in which the audience empathise with as they speak their though to the camera as we as England are an active audience.

Thanks for any comments in advanced!!!

I would say the main protagonist is the one we empathise with, it must be their story.

Can you call the normal one Lucy? I dont know why. Just ignore me.

Ok, what do you think of the idea? >_< Pleased Whistling nnocently

Not sure, I worked on a similar idea and it didn't really work out.

Do the other characters 'hear' him/her talk to the camera? is it an internal voice? In which case is the character schizophrenic? Or just a copy of the Peep Show?

Or is it more like a mockumentary ( The Office style).

I like the setting of a museum as long as you don't go Night at the Museum on us.

Sounds good, if the normal one interacts directly with the audiance it could give a feel that you are experiancing it yourself. Did that make sense? Im a bit tired.

well, i think the character would speak to the camera like in the office.

Ive never seen night in a museum so that wont take other any ideas!

And yes i do understand!

Could be good, good luck with it.

I very much like the setting of a museum.

It was used very effectively in the radio sketchshow The Museum of Everything, starring (gulp) Marcus Brigstock. As far as I'm aware, it hasn't been done on the telly, though. Although Ross from Friends used to work at a museum, and bioffed Rachel there in amongst the Cromagnom Man exhibit.

Yes it sounds a good idea

Good luck!
