I'm not very keen on these puns, but they probably work better if you 'lay it on thick'. To increase the 'groan factor',you could add:

SHOP OWNER: (CALLS AFTER HIM) Try next door. They serve all sorts there!

Outside the shop, the 'Food' and 'Drink' see Bertie Bassett emerge from the newsagent next door.
