Best Ricky Gervais line Page 3

I definately agree with the "Rape" line in the training day episode as the best.

‘If you want the rainbow, you’ve gotta put up with the rain.’ Do you know which philosopher said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she’s just a big pair of tits."

That quote is superb. Fantastic end to the episode.

I like "I'm a friend first, boss second. Probably entertainer third."

And "Excuse me everybody...what am I doing in there, with a dildo?" (after Tim puts that woman's dildo in David Brent's office)

"I don't live by 'the rules' you know. And if there's one other person who's influenced me in that way I think, someone who is a maverick, someone who does *that* to the system, then, it's Ian Botham. Because Beefy will happily say "that's what I think of your selection policy. Yes I've hit the odd copper, yes I've enjoyed the old dooby, but will you piss off and leave me alone, I'm walking to John O'Groats for some spastics."

I had an Office marathon last night/this morning, first time I'd seen it in ages. Forgot just how funny it is.

I get the impression that some people denounce the comedic value of The Office purely because of its mainstream success.

It might not happen too often anymore, but it is possible for something to be very funny AND popular in the mainstream.

To put The Office in the same category as Little Britain is a bit crass to say the least.

A less obvious line in The Office that always got me was when Gareth says (about Finchey) to the temp; "he's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you ever done?!".

Preeecisely.

Laughing out loud Great line.

It's true about the popular mainstream stuff too.

I love it when David Brent's trying to chat up that girl in Chasers:

Girl: I'm not going home with you.

Brent: Good, I didn't want you to. That's a waste of an hour.

Girl: So you were only talking to me because you wanted to sleep with me?

Brent: Yeah, and that's another thing I didn't tell you, I'd have to do you from behind because your breath smells of onions.

Who's been putting the show down because of its success now? Who what?

Not here necessarily. Just in the general world. Generally.

That's what I thought. But still. I've not seen any such commentary!

I've told you before and I'll tell you again, you need to hang out with more bitter unsuccessful writers.

Oh, wait...

I said "I get the impression".

Not sure how anyone could mention The Office and Little Britain in the same derogatory fashion anyway. They're not even close in terms of their respective styles.

I dunno, if one doesn't like either show then I'd think it's fairly easy to mention them similarly!
