There's currently an article on the BBC News website about the British love of smut and innuendo. Quite an interesting read, inspired by the death of Humphrey Lyttelton.
The art of innuendo
I loved the "Not The Nine O'Clock News" reaction to the innuendo-laden humour of The Two Ronnies: The Two Ninnies.

The joyous art of the single entendre!
Good article Aaron, thanks.
Reminds me however, that the delivery of an innuendo is much funnier when delivered 'innocently' as in the style of Lyttelton, rather than the 'obvious' style of say Clary or Norton.
I'll take Innuendo anyway I can get it.
Obvious or not.
