A bronze statue of Liverpool legend Ken Dodd is to be erected at the city's Lime Street Station.

The bronze work will be put on the station's main concourse - and should be ready before the end of Capital of Culture year.

It has been commissioned by Merseytravel and will be designed by Liverpool-based artist Tom Murphy.

The artwork will show the veteran comic greeting the late Labour MP Bessie Braddock who died in 1970.

Nice one. Guy's a legend.

Ditto. Well deserved.

Great news. Ken Dodd is a legend here in Liverpool!

But is it tax deductable?

Ooo, retro!

I was in a room with Ken Dodd and a number of other people and he was holding court, as he does. Talk turned to tax matters, and he made a couple of self-deprecating jokes. But then he started banging on at length with a right-wing rant about the tax system in this country. He finished off by saying "And do you know, I've no idea where my money goes."

I was that close to saying, "Have you tried looking under your mattress, Ken?" but I thought I might have been lynched by the room. Source of everlasting regret, and all that.

More like the sub-continent...

I've met him a couple of times and found him funny and delightful, so I think a statue is a great idea.
