To Be Or Not To Be, Innit - Update Page 5
I'm alright thanks.
I was just watching Hotel Babylon.
She really is a talented actress although it's generally similar parts. But she is very expressive.
Well well well, that was interesting. I didn't think that they gave Baumski quite the chance to get himself across properly (or maybe he was just so nervous he hammed it up ), but a good interview nonetheless. Would have been nice to get a shot of the cover on screen though.
Much higher-pitched voice than I was expecting there too!
Currently uploading a video, for all who're interested - will post the link soon.
F**k me, it's early...
Baumski came across very well on TV this morning (though I do think he should be held responsible for Susanna's appalling I'd Do Anything Nancy accent as she read from his book). Defended his point of view well from some of the die-hards who weren't keen on the update.
I think it's like anything: you write something effectively in 'jest' (and I don't mean any disrespect by that, Martin) and you'll always get a little bit of criticism, however trivial it seems!
So well done Baumski. Good luck with the rest of the publicity and I hope the book sells extremely well.
I'm going to order my copy soon cos I really could do with figuring out what these Shakespeare plays were all about. To defend his point, I've never understood 'the bard' (despite very good English Lit grades at school) and personally thought the bloke was both extremely over-rated and a bit of a knob (a view obviously not shared by the author). So, in that respect, the book will teach me what the fuss is all about, as well as making it more accessible to kids. Probably far more than Letts' Study Guides ever will.
BTW best quote by far was 'there's only so much damage I can do in three pages!' Genius, mate -- to make me laugh at this time in the morning is no mean feat!
Well done again.
Dan
It's on at 8.55am if anyone's recorded it like me, and had to fast forward through it all.
Short but sweet, but well done Baumski!
I watched it, very good Martin... I hope you stole all the shampoo from your free hotel room!

Yay!!
I was fast asleep at the pertinent moment.

Thanks everyone for all your support and comments. I've not yet seen the recording but hope to a little later once I manage to get through all this mail I've seemed to have got in my inbox.
I actually got bumped from the 7.20 slot due to a Drop the Dead Humphry Littleton situation. As it happened, the extra time allowed me to be sure of what I wanted to say in order not to dry up. Small studio with a handful of cameras all operated by one technician and not a make-up chair in sight!
I had a nice chat in the green room - well, I say green room but it was more the size of an extended broom cupboard - with a financial guru from the Daily Mail who knew who I was from the article in yesterday's paper. Oh yes, the price of fame and someone to give advice on how to invest it.
Although it was a rushed interview and yes, the pitch of my voice was a little scary, it was really all OK. Was I bothered? No, not really. All stock has been sold and another 1000 books are going into Gardners (trade book wholesalers) as demand is proving quite high. Does it matter that so many people are offended? No, because there are so many that aren't - and thank God for that.
I got a phone call on the drive home. Apparently Johnathan Ross and Andy were reading from the book and enjoying it. So together with a healthy mention from Stever Wright yesterday afternoon on his radio show and people from Graham Norton and Paul O'Grady requesting copies, I think I can take the rough with the smooth.
The last 24 hours have been, quite literally, something else and I feel totally amazed and humbled by the entire head-spinnig experience and it's something that I won't ever take for granted.
Again, thanks to everyone here on the BSG for all your support. It's really appreciated.
F**king hell! Ross, Norton, O'Grady! Bingo!
Interesting to hear about the size of the studio though. Sounds great, and certainly explains the kind of informal tone on the Saturday morning programme.
Nice one Martin!! Don't forget us.
You had a mention on the Steve Wright (Radio 2) in the Afternoon programme too. Nearly crashed the f**king car!
Interview video here. As I type though, it's still uploading. Should be finished by 2:25pm.
Oh, and it's 41MB.
Wouldn't play for some reason
Can hear it just cant see it.
It was one thing being told that Waterstone's were ordering my book but now I've seen it on their website it makes it real. By the way, just downloaded the interview. First time I've seen it so now I know that that was real.
And of course in the name of self-publicity, does anyone know how to get it onto Youtube?
