I'd heard about this before but never believed it was true. Back in they 80s Dexy's Midnight Runners were on Top Of The Pops with their single "Jackie Wilson Said". Unfortunately one of the set dressers had obviously misheard, and beamed a huge picture of obese dart player Jockie Wilson's mug onto a big screen to accompany the song. Brilliant! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eCOll4T-zo
Jackie Wilson Said
Funny, but I reckon it was probably the TOTP people having a laugh, if not the band.
Anyway, did they have two songs? Thought they were one hit wonders!
Come on Eileen? (not an instruction)
Come on Eileen.
snap
Geno
Jocky Wilson had a lounge named after him in Phoenix Nights
On the youtube page comments, someone says the band requested that picture of Jocky and were in on the joke. Really?

That's the one!
Let me take you higher, higher and higher! God, I love that song so much.
There There My Dear
Plan B
Show Me
Let's Get this Straight from the Start
etc etc
They had a string of hits, honest.
And every CD/record collection should have a copy of their debut album "Searching for the Young Soul Rebels", in my opinion. Even if you hate it.
Dexys are an excellent band, and it annoys me when people think they're just a naff disco outfit. The original Van Morrison version of that song, and the album it's off (St Dominic's Preview), is even better.
They were never a disco band - Geno being the first single was full of 60's type brass.
But before that Kevin Rowlands was in a punk band called The Killjoys and had a single called "Johnny won't get to Heaven". Difficult to know if they were bandwagon jumpers or original.

I know - but people assume they were because Come on Eileen is such a disco staple.
Kevin Rowlands sang the theme tune for Brush Strokes too.
