There was a H&P sketch on tonight's BBC Comedy Sketchbook thing. Not a bad quickie about "pot". Would be amazing coincidence if it was yours Perry!

Nah, not mine. Especially if it was funny. Whistling nnocently

Sounds like a good night, Keith. Anything overlooking the Thames is always fun.

Yeah, it was. As Perry will confirm. It was a good time for comdy writers really, as most shows had an open door policy. We also had work from other shows when the script editors moved on to do other things, they'd give us a ring or send a writers brief of the new programme they were working on. Sean Carson (nephew of Frank) and David Thomlinson were good like that, and later Richard Parker.

Wow, I got my first telly stuff on Hale and Pace! Series 8, round about '95. I went to a LWT studio recording and actually blubbed like a girl when the audience laughed at my stuff. What an idiot!

It's easy to forget just how huge Gareth and Norman were back then. (no I'm not talking about their waists). I don't give a f**k how uncool it is to say you worked on that show, I still say they did some extremely funny stuff - every bit as good as Little Britain.

Hale and Pace did some quite good stuff, but, like Smith & Jones, the show had no aim so a lot of bad sketches got made. But they did some very good ones, for sure.

I wonder if as comeback would ever be on the cards?

I think Smith and Jones was generally a very good sketch show that attracted some top sketch writing talent. Hale and Pace wasn't quite in the same league but it was still a lot of fun, and head and shoulders above the type of sketch shows BBC3 serves us regularly.

Anyone for Cannon and Ball?
;)

I liked Hale and Pace. I remember, back in the day, I'd be ecstatic if my Dad had recorded it as it used to be on quite late.

Like Seefacts said, it had no real aim - not something I realised at the time though! They did 8 series as well, which is a bit too long for a sketch show. Also, The last couple came as The Fast Show was taking off, which probably didn't help it's rep.

It finished because Hale & Pace decided to go over to the BBC. They made one series of a comedy related programme, then went on to do a 'jobs for the boys' type thing. Then disappeared as a double act.

Yes. It was actually called "Jobs For The Boys". The last I saw of them on telly was their cameo on the Extras xmas spesh where they were seen begging Andy Millman to get them in the Ivy.

Sad.
