This is where political correctness and all such wankery has got us. Let 'em get killed. Do the crime and face the consequences. Simple as.
In a school debate many moons ago, I said the death sentence works in the UK. The only two crimes you could be hanged for was piracy, and setting fire to a naval dock yard.
It would appear that is no longer true.
I wouldn't mind so much, but these pirates. Are murderous bastards, who cause much suffering.
