To be honest it's not really "The Onion"/Private Eye comedy style I am trying to replicate. I'm not that clever. But I do remember LOL to the Viz fake news stories in the 80's and 90's. If I can get anywhere near that kind of stuff I'd be happy.
Er... Viz and Private Eye are both phenomenal satirical magazines.
Suggesting they have some kind of lower style, is silly. Viz has a marvelous slavishly accurate meter, that almost perfectly replicates the turgidness of local press. Whilst at the same time being very funny.
Again great idea, and some good gags. But your style is so frustratingly slightly off key.
"With Budhists monkeys being all the rage..."
That's a line that damages the article.
Might I reccomend reading the Sun for a week, they're the masters of this sort of thing. They have some really good writers.
