Here's my interpretation of a David Bussell idea he whispered to me.
I couldn't do the original ending without the shadow of Austin Powers hanging over me though. I came up with a quicker ending.
I think the first 2/3 could do with some laughs, but hey maybe David can have another go at fondling this version:
Int. Corridor
A man and a butler stand in a corridor. Pieces of modern art adorn the wall. The man is running his hands excitedly over a door.
Man: This is it! The moment that all artists dream of!
Butler: So I just lock you in here?
Man: For 20 years.
Butler: With no contact?
Man: None.
Butler: 3 meals a day?
Man: Through the flap at the bottom.
Butler: Are you sure about this?
Man: I have no choice. My mind must become a blank canvas. Devoid of any external influences!
The man opens the door and takes half a step in.
Man: In 20 years then.
The man steps fully in to the room and shuts the door. The butler locks it. He smiles and rubs his hands together.
*Scene fades out and then back in - Superimposed caption of “2 days later” appears on screen*
The corridor has been stripped of everything but one picture. Man 2 and the butler are looking at it.
Man 2: So you just want £20 for it?
Butler: Yeah, it’s only a Picasso.
Man 2: Ok then.
Man 2 hands over £20 to the butler. Man 2 takes the picture off the wall. The two of them walk off down the corridor. Camera shows the ‘locked room’ door.
Man: (O.O.V) Is someone there? I’m getting really hungry now. Hello? Hello?
Screen fades to black.
