What comedy show have you seen (and liked) and thought "wow! i've never seen anything like that before"?
for me - THE YOUNG ONES, then a decade later - VIC REEVES BIG NIGHT OUT, then a decade later MIGHTY BOOSH.
maybe they only come along every ten years or so.
Groundbreaking comedy
Brass Eye, Jam, Adam and Joe Show. None completely original but all took themselves to the next level.
Airplane as well, and Simpsons, and Southpark (the most fearless and relevant comedy show of all time).
Agree with the Mighty Boosh.
I found Nighty Night groundbreaking.
Written by a woman, twisted & very dark.
Agree on Nighty Night, that was very original and shocking.
#1: Monty Python's Flying Circus: Don't need to say much else eh?
- The Mighty Boosh. I was entranced the first time I saw it.
- The Royal Canadian Air Farce: It was Canada's first real political skit show that started in the 70's on the radio, then to TV in the early 90's and sadly it will end this year (on their own terms though while still having good ratings). The show did a lot for Canadian nationalism and Canadian television.
Can't say that I've ever thought of anything as 'groundbreaking'!
The funniest film I have ever seen is Modern Times/Charlie Chaplin. The scene where the management come up with a machine where they can feed their workers whilst they work. It goes on for about 15 mins and I was absolutely rolling on the floor in fits of laughter. My ribs ached for days after. It is hilarious. I was hoping it would be on again and I could tape it. I would love to show it to my grandchildren to see if that comedy would amuse the youngsters of today but unfortunately, it hasn't been on the box since.
Monkey Dust-Social Satire
Day Today-Surreal Satire
Sarah Silverman Programme-Basically a 'risky' stand up routine as a Sitcom
Larry Sanders-Pure genius from start to finish. Never been achieved before or since. Fraiser came close though
Operation Good Guys-Awkward scoial tension
Keeping Up Appearances. A comedy based entirely on the premise of a car backfire, someone falling into a hedge and a joke about a bucket. Groundbreaking surely.
My Family, groundbreaking how such a bad "comedy" keeps getting recommissioned.

Yeah - I'm surprised it took so long!
