Have I Got News For You - Series 35 Page 5

I'm more of an anarchist. I don't care whose in power, as long as people campaign, and politicans have to listen to voters. I'd like to see either no parties, or a coalition.

It was a damn sight easier to vote for Ken when he was indie than since he's been back in the noo labour fold, that's for sure. For me, anyway.

My Lord, you really ARE an anarchist! Laughing out loud

With you on that one. Not that I actually did get to vote, but yeah, I know what you mean.

And in that respect, I am also a true democrat

Absolutely Badge, I remember taxi drivers backing him. This was the guy to first truly humiliate Blair. He's no friend of Labour, they took him back on his terms.

Damn if I was gay, I'd be getting a chubby for him.

. . .

Now that's just plain wrong.

And re anarchy/democracy/democrat: "democracy is the worst form of Government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time".

Winston Churchill, the world's greatest alcoholic crack head.

Gawd bless 'im.

*cough* HIGNFY *cough* We're going a bit off-topic here!

(Just a general note to everyone: I'm going to be trying to encourage the Sitcom and British Comedy forums to stay a bit more on-topic now. It's to help those that are only here to read people's opinions on comedy, and not for example, three pages of politics. The General Thread is the place for a Tory .v. Reds war. Cheers)

So... back on topic... whether or not you agree with his politics, would you say Boris has been the best HIGNFY guest host?

Tough call. Got to be between Boris and Widdy Cent.

This is all very fascinating. However, I'll withdraw from this i think, it is a comedy site afterall and not a political forum - as Mark has already noted.

But still, I cannot emphasise enough how bizarre it is to be amongst seemingly right-leaning creative people (although some posters are just fans, from what i can gather). Each to their own though!

Just as a PS, I spoke a couple of months back with a prominent London based writer/actor/comic - his words...'boris Johnson is a c**t for all seasons'. Perhaps that has heightened my sense of shock at the apparent pro-Johnson vibe on this thread. He felt, as does everyone I know, that johnson's supposed charisma is actually boorish arrogance, his 'intelligence' a myth, and his 'likeability' a creation of propaganda by the likes of the Daily Heil, The Express and the Telegraph. But again, I'll leave it there.

Back on topic...no Johnson was not the funniest presenter. I'm a Deayton fan, personally I think the bbc should bite the bullet and get him back.

The Observer ran a page of some of his quotes, and he can certainly put together at least a page of top notch wit.

Personally I think the presenter has always been rubbish.

It's basically the Paul Merton wears a silly shirt, and scowls at people whilst being the countries greatest, comic, and sarcastic person show.

You could put him on 4 slugs and he's still rock.

Like a mighty comedy baboon sharing a kill, he occasionally permits Hislop a few laughs, and rarer still some of the other guests.

He gazes with imperious contempt at the 3 guests, as the feebly read the autocues, and try not to cry and beg for mercy beneath his pitiless gaze.

In HIGNFY he is like a God gazing at ants.

Agreed on Deayton. Too much atention is paid to the individual guest's persona under the current format. It'd be nice to have some actual news stuff taking the show back again!

And despite that many people are showing appreciation for Boris (equal numbers doubting him though), I'm still confused as to what forum you're reading where the majority of posts are right-wing. Either you're further left than Lenin and Marx, or there's some secret forum I don't know about.

OK, to add a bit of balance to my earlier BoJo enthusiasm: despite all the charm, and liking him when I met him, there is one thing about Boris that would stop me ever voting for him:

(From Wikipedia) Johnson became embroiled in controversy in 1995 after a recording of a telephone conversation made in 1990 became public knowledge. On the tape Johnson is heard agreeing to supply the address of the News of the World journalist Stuart Collier in order for his former schoolmate Darius Guppy to have Collier beaten up for knowing too much about Guppy's failed insurance fraud. Johnson asked how badly Collier was to be beaten up, and Guppy replies "He will probably have a couple of black eyes and a... cracked rib or something like that". The conversation ended with Johnson agreeing to supply the address.

No matter how much I detest the News Of The World and its vile stable of reptiles, this isn't good.

EDIT - Oops, just realised we've stopped talking politics now. That's my last word, honest.

Just two quick points.
a) I suspect that that's snapping your sibling's blue crayon in comparison to the activities of other MPs (on either side of the house).
b) Didn't the News of the World claim to have found a WWII bomber in a crater on the moon? 'Nuff said.

Anyway. Yeah. HIGNFY.

I still reckon Merton's been coasting for the past 3 or 4 series' at least. I really hope he ups his game in the upcoming one.

Quote: Griff @ April 15 2008, 10:45 AM BST

What, arranging for people to get beaten up ? I certainly hope not.

I dunno, I think you'd probably be surprised.

Quote: Griff @ April 15 2008, 10:45 AM BST

BTW it was the Daily Sport who found the WWII Bomber on the moon, back in the days when they used to lead with headlines like "Man From Atlantis Stole My Pint".

Laughing out loud

Look at how many of TBs enemies died. He gave Mowmowlam cancer, with his evil smile.

So true, so true.
