Sitcoms in production Page 2

And I had to laugh when I read that the poor sod who won the BBC's 'Last Laugh' competition only got to share in the writing of the pilot, before someone else took over for the series.

Oh, well - I suppose not every great sitcom makes it. Look at 'Orrible' and 'Hippies'. Arguably two of the finest comedies written and performed at the tail-end of the last century, yet both axed after a single series.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Still I suppose it wasn't his idea to start with.

Have to strongly agree with the other David on 'Orrible! I thought it was a disaster. While we're on the subject of Vaughan what a waste of time that 'signing' was. Going off on a tangent here, but have any signings by the five terrestial channels or even Sky made a jot of difference? Vaughan/Norton to BBC, Baddiel/Enfield to Sky, Lynam/Rider to ITV, newsreaders swopping over etc etc. Nobody gives a monkey's. I wish the people at the top of these companies would get over themselves. We just want decent programmes.

Some interesting ideas in development. Not much stands out as 'new', though, does it? And I had to laugh when I read that the poor sod who won the BBC's 'Last Laugh' competition only got to share in the writing of the pilot, before someone else took over for the series.

Reminds me of the fate that befell Carla Lane's forgotten classic 'Screaming', which also got buried after six episodes. Proof that not even great writing and acting can guarantee a place in the comedy hall of fame.

Orrible was so bad, it hurt.

Hippies I've started watching today coincidentally.

Episode 1 was okay, a few laughs, it had a strange feel to it. I doesn't know what it wants to be. But still Sally Phillips legs, eh lads?

'Orrible truly was awful.

I remember that Johnny Vaughan also made the classic mistake of blaming the poor viewing figures on people 'not getting the joke'.

She looks like a poor man's Mariah Carey.

I thought 'Orrible was OK, not great but good.

Not an issue for me.

I think Mariah Carey (and this is well off topic) has the most incredible legs I've ever seen.

On ep 2 of Hippies - it's funny, I'm liking it. It's no Father Ted but what is?

They are really rather, aren't they?

Wow. Perving. This is so not-normal for me. Moving on!

Yeah, moving on.

I'd like to Mariah a rub down, lets just leave it at that.

She's in my top hot girls list.

I know she's as thick as 2 short planks, but my sweet jesus! HOT!

Leave it at that. :D

Oh yeah. For sure.

I'd like to produce . . . her . . . breasts.

On her breasts.

Off the comedy subject, has anyone see her video for "Touch My Body?" If so... blimey! Oh, and it features Kenneth the Page from 30 Rock.

She looks marvellous.

All legs and tits and gyrating in lots of legs and tits showing outfits.

Legs, Tits and Gyrating - that's her next single.

Er ... we seem to have gone off at a bit of a tangent here. But that's okay. Carey gets my vote, too.

Getting back to the sub-topic of 'Orrible', that series was so littered with well-written material, and so well delivered, that I'm truly surprised more people didn't get it. Or just find it incredibly funny. I mean, a moment like this (and there are many of them in the show) is priceless:

SHAUN (Ricky Grover): It's like Chris Akabusi said, Paul: 'Get the f**k in, get the f**king job done and get the f**k out!'

PAUL (Johnny Vaughan): Chris Akabusi did NOT say that, Shaun. For a start, he's a committed Christian!

Yeah but MARIAH . . . Only kidding.

Yeah but good material surrounded by shit does not a good sitcom make. I mean 'make a good sitcom'.

Also Ricky Grover has unwavering ability to make anything he's in be shit.

It's called the Grover Effect. It's the opposite of the Eldon Effect. (As we know 'Hyperdrive' doesn't exist)
