Shandling was rude, but so was Gervais just wandering around the guys house looking in his fridge and what not, telling him not to put his contact lenses in over the sink.
I think Shandling saw Gervais' work and wasn't a fan and used the interview to question him on his reasons for targetting minorities to which Gervais had no real answer to other than "because its funny"...the get out clause to any argument about comedy.

Nope, this is where you and I will never agree. Gervais confused Shandling with Johnathan Ross who thinks he is the best thing since sliced bread. In this case Gary Shandling was the sliced bread. Not that it really matters because at the end of the day Gervais has made it big, and you can't argue with that kind of success.
The only thing wrong with Shandling's handling of the matter was that he didn't take a baseball bat to Gervais. I'd have had Gervais seeing stars before he could open his mouth.
