Yea, just heard it on the radio. Very sad news.

How sad.

:(

He was great in Porridge - just really nice. I remember him from Night of the Demon throwing himself out of a window.

It's the strangest thing when you see all the sitcom reruns and then realise how many of the actors are no longer with us. First it was Carry On, then Dad's Army and now Porridge.

Very sad indeed.

:(

Very sad.

He was terrific in Porridge.

good actor and a nice bloke I keep hearing. RIP.

Christopher Biggins is still with us.

Very sad.

He was superb as Mr Barraclough. Favourite moment of mine performed by him is in Porridge (The Film Version.)

In the prison officers' club, consoling the new prison officer on the fact he's divorced, he says, "Well, better to have loved and lost... Than spend your whole ruddy life with her." Delivered immaculately by Brian Wilde.

Sadly missed.

Bugger, posted this on the main forum. Thought it was strange that there wasn't a thread already.

Surely this is on-topic!

Yeah... It should really have been in 'Other British Comedy'. Hm.

Moved!

Yeah, he was great in porridge. My favourite scene of his is when they are trying explain the universe or whatever with fruit and balls.

Why has no one mentioned how good he was as Foggy!

He was an absolute legend and I'm deeply saddened to hear of his death. He was great as Mr Barrowclough as the soft touch but his best role for me was Foggy in 'Last of the Summer Wine' He is probably the best Summer Wine charactor of all time and by hell there have been many charactors in the show. 'THAT MAN!' He used to brilliantly say. On youtube now is the Last of the Summer Wine feature-length episode 'Getting Sam Home' This shows Brian at his peak, watch it, it is well worth it. I too saw him in Night of the Demon, a great film that was.

Brian Wilde RIP.

He was in an episode of the first series of George and the Dragon aswell as a Policeman.
