Lady Diana

Thoughts please!

"Lady Diana" - to the tune of Beatles' "Lady Madonna"

Lady Diana, car-crash in the street
Should’ve paid the driver to be more discreet
You’ll find the story still in The Express
You’ve been dead ten years and I couldn’t care less

Al Fayed arrives, he’s such a fruitcake
Every mad theory under the sun
Monday’s Times recounts it with a straight face
Sells by the ton

Lady Diana, hounded by the press
Burrell telling lies at Prince Philip’s request
Pap pap pap…
Sells by the ton

Lady Diana - another front-page spread
Last time that I looked, you know, you still were dead

Your bloody inquest is never ending
DNA results they didn't come
Every hack in England is attending
Sells by the ton

Lady Diana, may you rest in peace
First let’s write another bloody daft puff-piece

END

I like that alot, and I could hear the tune running through my head when I read it.

That's good. Lady Madonna and Lady Diana is a good match.

The only bit which didn't seem strong was:

Pap pap pap...
Sells by the ton

It's only one bad couplet though.

Thanks for the comments!

Fortunately the "pap pap pap" isn't really a proper line, it's the bit where it goes go "pa-pa-pa-pa,pa-pa-pa-pa" (etc.), i.e. it's just like humming to the tune.

I probably should've made that clearer - I've already bandied it around now, humph! But thanks for pointing it out all the same. :)

Excellent - made me laugh and scanned very well, which can be a prob with some parodies.

I liked this. Won't repeat everything everyone else said, but agree it's good.

This is good, are you sending it off?

It's a pity you hadn't done this a few months ago. It would have made NR at least. Might still. Nice one.

Yeah, I'm sending it off.

It is a shame I didn't write it sooner - hopefully I'll be able to keep on top of things at some point!

Nice one James.

Brilliant!

Nice.

Now write me 'Rogaine' to the tune of Eric Clapton's 'Cocaine'.

Haha, I'm still trying to think of a platform for Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing", but as the best rhyme I can find is "Menstrual Bleeding", it might not ever see the light of performance...

You're kidding, right? You have to write that song.

I'm definitely going to write it, but I doubt anyone will want to perform it. And it's not topical either. Well, I suppose it sort of is, in a way... it comes around every month, I suppose.
