BBC Writersroom letter Page 2

It's why you have to have a killer First line, first page, first 10 pages,

how many people start with massive info drop. or 2 wacky flatmates arguing that the lazy one should get a job etc.

I'd say go for the Bond film approach, big exiting sketch like scene then go for the meat of the script.

You aren't going to get that from the bbc's writersroom. you'd be better off sending it to production companies.

They won't give you feedback either, no detailed anyway.

The opening line for this one is, "They dont know if the sight loss is going to be permanent, but it will be at least another three weeks before the bandages come off."

Nice one. You haven't rewritten Day of The Triffids?

How about this one

Trevor MacDonald stared dolefully over his glasses, and solemnly said

"The Queen is Dead....is my favourite Smith's Album"

Or the hardened detective, looked shocked, he grasped his face and said,

"The evil swine raped his victim, killed them, and then ate them...but not in that order."

That one's actually Harlen Ellisons.

Tripods?

Hmm, don't know that one - anyone care to give me a one line summary?

A 1960s post apocalyptic version of War of the Worlds, set a 100 years into a seemingly benevolent occupation.

n.b. the books are by John Christopher, and are ace. The BBC show is also dead good. It had a massive budget for the second season

I remember watching it when I was wee.
I don't know if it was repeats or a video or what. But it was fecking scary.
