n.b. Douglas Adams covered similar territory in The Restaurant at The End of the Universe.

With an animal bred with the desire to be eaten.

Maybe a twist would be, that she orders a battery chicken. It's death would be a relief?

Yes, you're absolutely right. I'd thought of the similarity with the Douglas Adams scene too, although that was a much more brilliantly original idea.

I'm not a vegetarian, and share the hypocrisy of most of us, who are willing to eat meat but wouldn't be prepared to kill it.

Long long ago there was a fictional animal that liked to be eaten.

It was in the late 1940s ? I think, it appeared in cartoon strips & was called a Shmoo.

Later:

Ah yes, others remember it too.

I liked it.

i'd say lose the stuff about the chicken and the salmon. straight in there to the lamb.

stuff about its life, it had a wonderful time a loving family, he produces photos of it at tourist spots around the globe. Stood on the golden gate bridge, outside sydney opera house. Skiing in the alps.

Was it humanely killed? it's not dead madam it's here. and he brings it out. Hmmm maybe not that bit.
