Give Blood? Page 2

I'm also an organ doner... so neh! :P

donor*

(Pity you don't receive much organ though.)

And in answer to the original questions, I don't, I won't, I can't, and I have no idea.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that gay men can't give blood :O .

Are we still in the 18th century or summink?

(Not that I'm suggesting for a moment that's why Aaron doesn't give blood)

Probably all the hype of AIDS n that. Doesn't it take ageeeees for any of the symptoms or indicators to show up, or summink?

... Whistling nnocently

Yeah, I'm sure it's an AIDS thing. But more straight people have that now than gay people. That's why it makes no sense.

Putting on my medical hat I don't think that's true anymore. All blood through the UK transfusion service is screened. So as a first time donor your initial samples are screened and you are advised if there's ANY clinical reason you can't be a donor, of which there are many, not just Hepatitis/HIV. (And obviously every sample from thereon is screened for HIV. And you don't have to worry about sero-conversion for usual blood transfusions as only the red blood cells are used, not those naughty white cells.)

I think I heard it on the Jeremy Vine show.

Has he been LYING to me?!

I did a google.

I think that's pretty fecked up to be honest. I thought they were desperate for donors?

But then there are more straight people than there are gay people. Or are there more as a percentage? *strokes chin*

Innnnnntawesting.

You listen to Jeremy Vine? Now that is controversial.

You answer a long question sheet, where you are asked personal questions about your sex life, and whether you have had sex with someone you believe could have aids. But there is nothing that says gay men can't give blood. As Tim said there are many reasons why you can't give blood - something as simple as just having a cold.

Not by choice honest!
But if I'm in a room with my mum, then Radio 2 will be present. :)

Is your Mum in the room, or are you dressed up as your Mum and Jeremy's telling you to murder the female guests?

I stand corrected.

...have you been watching me, Tim?

Of course, if you're a gay man but know you're healthy and really want to donate, you can just lie and get round it that way. But why should you have to.

Surely a question I should be asking you?

I prefer his brother.

... That was really badly timed, what with the whole gay debate. Laughing out loud

(Or maybe perfectly timed, if you care to think of it in that manner. zooo.)
