Who loves Talk Sport? Page 2

My all-time favourite Talksport memory, for sheer hilarity, has to be the night an American woman sat in for one of the regular presenters, about 5 or 6 years ago. She was talking about the part Britain played in the Second World War, and she declared that the English played no actual physical part in it, leaving the fighting to the Scottish and the Welsh, while they merely "Sat around drinking tea"!!

Some Many Some Americans really are breathtakingly stupid.

You've gotta love wee Alan Brazil.

Not his finest moment here though:

Some of their ex-footballers are a bit out of depth with current affairs stuff and lacks an all round loudmouth like Jon Gaunt (although they might have one by now). George Galloway's show is always good radio though.

It's okay, but wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it. Sky Sports News is far more superior on a Soccer Saturday. I really don't like Adrian Durham either.

Paul Hawksbee, from Hawksbee and Jacobs is also a comedy writer, having writtn for Frankie Howerd, The Two Ronnies, Spitting Image, Fantasy League Football, Harry Hill and Al Murray.

The Hawksbee & Jacobs show is usually pretty good.
But I don't listen to much else on there

I have just started listening to it - and all round the clock.

Surprised how good it is - the two Mikes are excellent.

But I have only done it for two days and it won't be a routine.

It's garbage

When it was Talk Radio it was awesome

Tommy Boyd and Nick Abbott were brill

There's a real gap in the market for a decent talk radio station

Talk Sport is 90% adverts and 10% dickheads yabbering on about Arsenals lack of decent right backs

Some of it is still quality:

I listen to Talk Sport all the time and love it. Sure, some of the presenters are annoying, but it's always entertaining. Hawksbee and Jacobs is probably my favourite show on there.

Hello Ben Wave

Some of them are more sensible than others.

H and J are good and I like Adrian Durham.

.....I'm still enjoying this station although listening it for too many hours and it feels like working at a sports desk on a newspaper. That is, it can all get a bit journo. Nevertheless, Goldstein and Cundy are amusing - a lot of Dumb and Dumber near the knuckle childish humour. There are several bizarre aspects, ie Micky Quinn sounds weirdly like the twin of Paul O'Grady plus there's a 1950s style bloke who does a show on fish. And the Two Mikes - great comic timing, erudite to the point of intellectual yet full of totally mad gibberish - are the strongest comedy double act on the circuit. Definitely the best non-weekend listening on the radio after 1am.

I'm a bit worrried about Mike Porky Parry. He drives up to Waterloo from Epsom Downs at 11pm to do his programme, travelling through places like Streatham and Brixton. Then he drives back at 4.30am. I couldn't do that sort of thing if over 60 and in an expensive car which takes over the moment one in front of it slams on the brakes. Luckily, I feel that we are going to meet. He does 30 miles of walking on the North Downs each day and I am going to start doing the same from Merstham. If that doesn't work, I will try to express my concern to him in Banstead Woods as I know he goes there too. I have prepared some suitable quizzes.

Caesar the geezer > James Whale + Ash > Ian Collins > George Galloway: the golden age of Talk Radio (later TalkSport).

Can't stand it now.

I remember Whale when he was on Aire plus several from before the Boer War. David Bassett, Adrian Love, Susie Barnes, Monty Modlyn etc - and Martin Kelner who turns up on Hawksbee and Jacobs may have been on BBC Leeds in the 1980s? Good Two Mikes last night although the inclusion of Fire gave me bad dreams.

....H and J - loved the bits about Amanda Chantal Bacon:
