I was stuck in traffic earlier and started thinking about the infamous traffic scene from Jon Luc Godard's 1967 film 'Weekend'. It features a long panning shot of a bizarre traffic jam. I decided to mock it a bit.
Ext. Road. Day
A camera pans along a road. It passes 2 cars. The next car in line features a small boy in the driving seat beeping his horn. The next car is facing the opposite way to the rest of the traffic. The next car features two men fighting outside the car. One of them climbs on top of the car and launches himself screaming at the other man. The next car features a nude couple having sex on the bonnet. There is a slight gap in the traffic. The next car is slightly askew in the road and 2 men, dressed in black polo neck tops and white neckerchiefs are sprawled across the road. Blood is pouring from them. Two policemen survey the scene.
Policeman 1: What are they?
Policeman 2: Art film directors.
Policeman 1: French ones?
Policeman 2: (NODS) They drove straight into one of their own nihilistic paradoxes.
Policeman 1: That one over there?
Camera pans along and shows Death, who is being interviewed by another policeman.
Death: This is really gonna mess my figures up. How the hell do I explain it to the boss?!
