What movie is this?

Scene below is in a sitcom, its based on a movie scene. I am just checking. Is the link to the movie obvious, subtle or non-existent? Not worried about the humour, that follows - i just need to see if people will miss the reference. (i am aiming for 45% hit rate!)

HOTEL MANGER
1974, my Grandfather was wrongly accused of (BEAT) socialising with, something that wasn’t Grandma. We didn’t see them arrive but by dark there was a mob alright, 30 or more. They came for him, and his animals. They took the goats first, they make a terrible high pitch scream. You ever hear a goat scream Mr Lewis?

MARK SHAKES HIS HEAD IN DISBELIEF

(CONT)
By the end of that first night we’d lost 4 sheep and a donkey to the hangings. They only stopped when daisy snapped their rope. Noon the next day Herbie Robinson came from the Farmers Union, put us in the back of his land rover. While the crowd circled around us. (BEAT) Mr Lewis, I haven’t be scared since waiting for my turn to be put in that car. (PAUSE) Anyway, Grandpa was safe.

I'm a fairly avid movie watcher and this was lost on me. I must confess that Westerns are my blind spot though. Is it a Clint Eastwood movie?

Silence of the Lambs, but it's a bit of a stretch. Try referencing the screaming of the lambs line.

I thought that from the first paragraph but the second persuaded me otherwise.

I'm with the 55%.

hmmm, may need to tweak it!

I want to say The Sound of Music...?
