NME Awards/Grumpy Old Man? Page 3

I prefer the term 'magic beans'. But please don't forget to send the virgins or it will be a most uncomfortable night!

They're on their way!

I've sent them in a special bus.

Laughing out loud
I hope by that you don't mean a special needs bus?

Well...
You didn't specify a mental age requirement?
I assure you they're all over 16.

When I was young the NME was so pretentiously poncey - a bit like a (slightly) musical Guardian. Melody Maker and Sounds were much better but you don't have any choice now.

I never bought Melody Maker and I did not like it when they turned into a glossy 'sunday paper magazine' style thing.

I'm too young to remember Sounds.

JESUS! Who remembers Select?! I loved that magazine!

I do - and the Face. I've got issue number 1 which should be worth a few quid.

Oh the Face was excellent!

Poncey, but ace.

They have their MOBOs, so maybe it's an unwritten banishment from other ceremonies?

The funniest thing about the MOBOs is the way the organisers get the most random Z-list celebs, to come on and read out the nominations/winners. There's so few proper black celebs in this country, that they end up inviting people who hardly anyone has heard of, or who haven't been on T.V. for years.

Gary Wilmot?

I rarely bought the NME, but I think it was at its best when you couldn't understand it. When the writers all wanted to be Lester Bangs.

Aw, Phillip Seymour Hoffman... (I know there was a real Lester Bangs too, but I prefer Phillip's.) He had some brilliant lines in that film.

The award that was truly deserved (apart from the Manics Godlike award) was the Best Live Act going to Muse.

I don't like HOffman in real life he comes off as a pretentious ass.
But I can't deny he's a fine actor.

At the very start it was mainly music plus a bit of style but then it went the other way.
