Is it me, or is it a bit much? Also shouldn't men who are continuously criminally violent towards women, have to account for what they're upto a bit more?
3 serial killers convicted in a week
Do you think the death penalty should be brought back? Not a joke question, just a general wondering for a decent discussion.
Yes but not for murder
What for then?
Having a misleading avatar.
For being a socialist.
For being a politician.

Well leaving aside crimes of passion, most thrill killers commit various crimes building upto the actual murder. These 3 guys were classic cases in point. These lesser crimes include, animal cruelty, vandalism, common assault, sexual assault, down loading of illegal porn, visiting prostitutes. I reckon if some one commits 7 of these indicator crimes, in a year they should be executed. Even if they don't kill, they usually end up as dangerous malignant members of society.
You're making Hitler look rational now. :-/
Well the whole concept of punishing the guilty is defeatist, it teaches nothing. It permits the perpetrator to enjoy committing the crime, hope to get away with it, and the punishment is rarely that bad, even hangings quick. We should punish the probably guilty, view prison/execution/flogging as prophylactic behaviour modifiers. If one views aberrant behaviour as an illness, as opposed to a legal issue there's hope for a cure.
But you've always got the chance they may reform. And then if they do get convicted of murder and then they're executed, what if there was a mistake, you can't repeal it can you?
Also, I read a great point the other day...Ian Huntley keeps trying to commit suicide - he wants to die, to get away from the torture and guilt he is being put through. If we kill these people, we're giving them what they want and they don't deserve that.
So aside from the fact that its costly to keep them in prison, there are only bad things associated with the death penalty as far as I'm concerned.
And I just realised how serious that was, there were no jokes or silly remarks to make it lighthearted. Oh dear.
Tits.

I think I am asexual!
I reckon we should just make prisons really horrible. Like, pre-Victorian or something. Real hell. It's not enough to say that the loss of freedom is punishment. The punishment has to be the prison itself. Would probably solve quite a few problems overnight.
See your weighing the rights of the probable victim, against the probable perpetrator. Of course people on route to crime, should be given the chance to change their ways. The fear of death may help motivate this choice. As for people who commit these crimes, death is too easy a release, and not enough of a deterrent. Apart from the States where it's a proper nasty way to go. You know once on deathrow in the States you'll never smoke another fag outside of hell.
oh and for fun seekers, big hairy bollocks!
n.b. The RSPCA did some chilling research recently on just how frequent serious animal cruelty turns up as an early crime for murderers, and other perpetrators of serious violence.
