Steve Edge

Okay, I've not got anything against him, but it seems every time BBC Three come up with a new comedy he's in it. Isn't that just the teensy weensy bit boring? I know he is/was an in house writer at the Beeb but this is where things go wrong for me, and in drama too. Signing somebody up to do projects for them on a three year deal or something (like ITV do with the ex-Eastenders cast) It doesn't work. People get sick of the same faces all the time.

I actually quite like Steve Edge... think he's been the best part of many programmes he's been in.

I know what you mean about this though. I guess that from a production point-of-view it makes sense though... i.e. if you're hiring someone you know, who already has a track record of getting the job done well, without hassle, it saves time and effort for the crew doesn't it.

Plus I suspect that it has something to do with money - Edge is known to comedy fans like us, but not yet a household name so hiring him is probably like getting a star without paying star-level wages.

David Armand is similar on the sketch show scene -

Afraid I'm not familiar with him. :-/

Now you show him I know who you mean. But unless they're real leading characters I don't think it matters that much.

Off the top of my head... one of the club's staff in Phoenix Nights, various Star Stories roles, the copper in I'm With Stupid, Clint in The Visit, assistant manager in Mike Bassett. I think he's also a writer on 8 Out of 10 Cats. I've probably missed some sketch shows he's been in.

I believe this thread was probably started as he's been named the lead in The Cup, the forthcoming sitcom set around kids football.

Well the only one of those shows I've seen is The Visit, so it does make sense that I had no idea who he was. :)

David Armand does those brilliant visual interpretations of songs under a different name though. They're ace.

I like him!
He played a very good pillock in Magicians, which I just watched today.
