With Olivia Colman pregnant in last night's Mitchell And Webb it got me thinking about actresses who've been pregnant during a sitcom run, with Lisa Kudrow and Jane Leeves immediately springing to mind.
How bad must that be for a writer, there you are with loads of ideas for your sitcom and how your characters are going to develop and then a main actress becomes pregnant and you've got to change the story to suit them. It's obviously difficult to get round it but isn't it totally wrong a writer having to bow to an actress? I thought they probably just got away with the Phoebe story but couldn't take her to the UK, while Daphne's story of being overweight was poorly done.
It can leave an indelible mark on an entire series.
