New Topical Sketch Show, NewsTroupe Page 3

We have dates now - Friday 30th and Saturday 31st May, 7.30, Miss Peapods in Penryn (Cornwall). We're still sorting out tickets, booking etc. I gather they do a lot of on-the-door trade but I want people to be able to reserve.

David: We're not *entirely* sure how it's going to slot together because we haven't had the auditions yet. It will be a maximum of 4 people. 4 is the ideal number IMO. Of the four, Ro and I will be in it either as full performers or just for the odd couple of sketches. I think two-handers will probably form a lot of the show. Of course, it might end up as just me and Ro (unlikely I think), which would be anarchic and fun but probably stressful. As for any more detail... the auditions are coming up so more to follow!

Sounds mad but exciting. I'll treble my stuff that I send to NR and TS. You can pay me when you're rich and famous. Or even better gis a job. Mind you it's mostly rubbish. But it's my rubbish. [Sits in corner and jealously guards computer]

Haha, it's quite thrilling really. We'll definitely be videoing it too so there may be a link coming up in the coming months!

I just, by coincidence, read the blog of a writer who went to see the other comedy troupe who play the same venue. It's not even remotely relevant or interesting, but dammit, I'm going to link to it anyway! http://jamesandthebluecat.blogspot.com/2008/03/cornwall-is-having-hurricane.html
His blog's brilliant, and he wrote for Green Wing.

Best of luck with that. sounds good.

Would have liked to go and see the Dumfunded thing, but I couldn't.
It sold out as well.
However, the venue weren't too happy because the audience were told to sit down, shut up and not buy any drinks (the glass collectors were told off too for clinking glasses), so they didn't make any money. Consequently we're having to pay more for the venue, which is a bit of a pain, as our format will involve people being noisy and getting as pissed as they can. Probably the only way to view the show!

My kind of show then :D

The venue have pulled out and have been very rude indeed about the whole affair, so I'm rather pissed off.

As this now doesn't leave very long until our expected relocation to London, it seems like the project will be put on ice until we're in London.

I'll update writers as and when.

I've been running around an awful lot and getting rather pissed off. Humph. Still, perhaps when I'm out of the South West there'll be less people stalling me with parochial attitudes! Bloody irritating becaus that's the *one* thing we need to rely on someone else for - we can do everything else ourselves, even keep it as a two-man show. "Not interested in hosting a comedy night, we're packed out with tourists every night now anyway," etc. etc. I'd book out a theatre but we'll be moving soon - hopefully.

*Bares teeth in angry but still enigmatic and rather charming face*

Tell them to f**k off! But nicely. You don't want to burn any bridges.

Yeh f**k the whole south west, may it get all it deserves.

You going to put on a show in London to compete with News Revue?

Is it central London or the outskirts?

Are you still looking for stuff then?

London's a big place. Wherever we live in London I don't want to set up shop next door or anything.

My partner is applying for jobs all over so it could be anywhere.

We'll be looking for material once we're settled in, but we won't be moving for a few months.

It's irritating because the South West show was going to be a final parting shot, leave on a high, etc., before moving the show, but the attitude of the venue has been mind-boggling. If we were staying down here I'd hire out a whole theatre, but it's too late now.

Just glad I hadn't got round to buying the projector.

Good luck with this. I shall keep my most beadiest eye on it.

And I will keep Leevil's beady eye on it too.

Vandalize some of the sea defenses far more lasting parting shot. They'll really remember you.

To be honest knowing Canal Cafe Theatre, where NR takes place. If you paid, they'd probably let you run a topical news revue an hour before NR.

Call it "News Revue is shit, don't watch that, watch this,"
