Advice on Broadband

Hi All,

I hope I’m not out of order posting this but it says “Anything and everything else”
If I am Aaron please let me know

I think it time I went Broadband and wondered weather any of you had any
view and advice, the few I look at all look much the same

The only large files I can envisage downloading maybe video but don't mind
waiting a bit so I was thinking along the line of a slower download speed
with a high or limitless usage.

Unless you think I'm making a mistake, any good deals at the moment
I'm not with sky or have any contract on my mobile or cable so none of the
bundle deals are any good for me.

Any advice gratefully received

Cheers

Barry

Hi Barry

Don't know who's doing what in terms of deals but all I would say is once you have BB then you'll wonder how you managed without it. It is just so much quicker for all Internet activities.

I'm with BT personally (not the cheapest I know but I'm a lazy git and can't be bothered with multiple bills etc) and find it excellent; with the only annoying thing (non-uk call centre but getting much better) technical help. But in all honesty I rarely need any and now they have remote facility to take over your computer and do any setting adjustments themselves. Spooky but bloomin' quick.

In the past year I don't think the 'system' has ever been down.

Hope this helps

I used to be with AOL, yeah I know but if you have a router AOL has unlimted downloads unlike BT which I've beeen paying fines for downlaoding to much after teeling them I do alot of downloading grrr Only prob wit hAOL is acancelling its a nightmare, oh and customer services but thats the same on all the providers I 've used

I'm also with BT and Speaking as the worlds biggest technophobe, it's been a pretty painless experience in the year I've had Broadband. I've also saved money on my phone bill which is major plus and of course it's been really useful for downloading things like the new Channel 4 On Demand service, which I did earlier on this afternoon. Best of all is the annoying dial-up sound has become a think of the past. Go for it Barry.

Barry - you need broadband! How have you managed to live without YouTube :)

Firstly, I hate AOL because they make you use their email and browser (or at least they did) - don't use them.

My connection is via BT Broadband, no complaints really in the last three years. In fact they may be worth looking at - they're giving new customers some cool stuff at the moment - free wireless home hubs and such like.

I hear NTL is one to avoid as they're customer service is the worst - then again they're soon to be taken over by Virgin so that could all change.

My main advice is do shop around. Now is a great time to buy what with the price wars - remember they're all desperate to sign up new customers so see what extras or discounts you can get out of them!

Yes, a big point here as others point out, is there are no call charges for your ISP, so if you are a heavy user, and we are, then you can save a decent amount on your quarterly bill as you are always 'on' and there are no extra charges racking up.

it's no longer an issue using the AOL brower or email I just liked the fact that unlimited actually meant unlimited when I was with them not like BT...OH Well don't even get me started

The only plus I've found with NTL is that they have no download cap. Otherwise, I'd advise against going with them, as pretty much everything else is a bit shite really.

As Mark says, the customer service may change, but since they're only taking on the Virgin name, not being taken over by them, I won't be banking on it at any time too soon.

Thanks Blenkinsop,Gavin,Baumski,Mark,Blenkinsop and Aaron for your advice I’ve stuck to the devil I’ve Known having been with freeserve AKA Wanadoo AKA Orange from day one of my internet life, being stuck out in the Hampshire countryside there not as much choices as some may have. top speed out here is just 1.5 megs
