Advice on Radio script format

Hi guys,

Someone suggested to me that a sketch I'd written could be expanded, a suggestion that I initially ignored, but now I'm thinking it may work as a half hour play on the radio. I also wonder if there will be more chance of it being picked up as I assume radio is not the holy grail for most comedy writers. That could be rubbish of course.

I've never written for this medium before and wondered if anyone could advise on formatting?

I have tried several times to download the BBC script formatting tools but couldn't get them to work.

I think, initially, I need to know if the usual scene headings are required with INT/EXT DAY/NIGHT etc, which seems a bit superfluous in this instance.

Also, are the line spacings and text positioning similar to TV or Film?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi Steve

There are a few examples on Writers' Room. Seems it's a bit subjective as people use different types of format. This one is the same as the one I use in my attempts to radio sitcom:

It's one of the ScriptSmart ones I think as I use it. ScriptSmart can be very useful but does take perseverance. And a lot of it.

Hope this helps

Dan

Thanks for that Swertyd.
