Gervais - at it again Page 8
Quote: Matthew Stott @ February 12, 2008, 6:01 PMDont know if anyone read gervais in the new Radio Times, but he, quite clearly, states that the arrogant things he says at award ceramonies are for comic effect only, as an opposite to the fake humble speeches of everyone else. Now Gervais may have a big head, and who could blame him with what hes achieved, but theres an answer to whether hes joking or not straight from the horses mouth. I still find it hard to believe that anyone would think he would actively put himself across as an arrogant prick in every tv appearance for anything other than comic effect, that would make him an idiot.
Why would anyone pretend to be arrogant for comic effect. Where's the joke?
The Office was very good.
I got that quote from Jake.
Quote: zooo @ February 12, 2008, 6:35 PMAlso from Radio Times,
"I love paying tax. It helps justify how much I earn. There's something unsavoury about tax exiles. 'Pay your tax or f**k off'."He added: "I'm an atheist so I'm not going to be rewarded outside this life, but do you know what? This sounds like another cliché (but) if you're nice to people, you feel good yourself. I want to sleep well and know I've led an honest life."
You forgot to post the bit where he tells the interviewer that his indoor swimming pool cost £3.5 million and not the £2.5 million reported in the papers. Why would you say that? He also says regarding his poorly received ad-libbing at the Concert for Diana:
"Since then I've won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and sold a million more DVDs. I could have gone into my routine for Fame, but I didn't want to because I'd sold 250,00 tickets at 40 quid each and would cheat those who paid for the gig."
Very laudable that he didn't give away free material that people had paid to see later in the year, but why not just say; 'I could have done material from my new show but I didn't want to disappoint people who bought tickets'. The way RG talks reminds me of that Baddiel joke 'My son - the university graduate - is drowning.'
OH FFS - LET IT REST!
Bitterness is not a nice trait.
If you haven't got anything to say on topic get out of the thread.
Zoo, you used square brackets in your radio times post - around the 'but'.
Let's keep things nice everyone. Thank you.
Ooh, did I? Weird.
That's cos I copy and pasted it from another website. I haven't actually read the full interview yet in the Radio Times.

I think Pots and Kettles come to mind here.
Are you implying that I'm frequently off topic?
I'd go so far as to say I've NEVER posted off topic on this forum.
Calm please.
Everyone has a right to their own opinions, whether you (all of you) think they are wrong or right on a topic.
It's a discussion forum, the whole point is to discuss, but is there really any point in trying to convince someone to change their mind?
