New BBC Radio 4 comedy series

Just got an email from the BBC about some new comedy shows.

Pappy's Fun Club

Pappy's Fun Club is a window into an exciting'live' show, where anything can happen and usually doesn't. It has the childish exuberance and crumbling show structure of the Muppet Show, invaded by anarchic characters reminiscent of Vic Reeves' Big Night Out or The Mighty Boosh.

There are no fades or audio 'blackouts', cut-scenes or locations. Instead it is a single, unbroken stream of free-form sketch and character comedy, using the structure of the Fun Club show to carry the events along and introduce fresh and exciting characters.

As a team, Pappy's Fun Club have been performing since June 2004, initially writing and performing two hour long 'variety' shows in Soho, then touring sketches and characters to other comedy clubs and nights as part of the process of developing and refining material. In August 2007 Pappy's Fun Club were nominated for the If.com Award at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Recording on Thursday 28 February at The Drill Hall. Doors open at 7.15pm.

The Idiot Pebbles

The Idiot Pebbles are a fictitious sketch group much loved and honoured by the British public. They have been writing and performing for over 30 years and, in this welcome reunion they present some of their best and worst sketches from their illustrious career.

The Idiot Pebbles include: Rhys Thomas (Down The Line, Star Stories), Lucy Montgomery (Down The Line, Tittybangbang) and Tony Way (Fun at the Funeral Parlour, Fairytales).

Recording on Monday 10 March 2008 at the BBC Radio Theatre. Doors open at 7:45pm.

Hudson and Pepperdine Save the Planet

Written by and starring Mel Hudson and Vicki Pepperdine.

Hudson and Pepperdine Saves The Planet is about their attempts to save the planet, but mostly London, the day before the world will end due to levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere doubling - causing catastrophe.

It's a comedy disaster movie in the shape of a radio play.

Recording on Monday 17 March at the BBC Radio Theatre. Doors open at 7.45pm.

Well, having heard Bearded Ladies I would avoid Hudson and Pepperdine at all costs. They are terribly unfunny.

I saw Pappy's Fun Club warming up for Stewart Lee back in May/June. They were actually surprisingly funny and I did like them. Bunch of likeable chaps I thought -- their sketch show should be quite funny.

Dan

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure Hudson and Pepperdine didn't have anything to do with bearded ladies, certainly the difference in quality between The Hudson and Pepperdine Show and Bearded Ladies would suggest they are not written by the same people in any way.
