NewsRevue again! Page 62

As said above, one-liners are broadcast whilst everybody is offstage preparing for the next sketch/song.
They're delivered like presenter one-liners on panel shows. Think Jimmy Carr on 8 Out Of 10 Cats, or the guest presenter on Have I Got News For You.
Or in a news headline style.

Mikey - you are a star. Thanks very much for sharing this.

Try as I might, I'm never on the mailing list - they've done my sketches and songs, and I've emailed them a few times but after having them for a year about 2 yrs ago, nowt.

It's coming to something when it seems they don't even want us on their mailing list...

I asked to be added to the mailing list about 4 weeks ago. Has anything been sent out since then that I've missed? (I haven't received any emails from them).

Haven't had anything email-wise for a couple of weeks now.
All quiet on the western front.

BTW, has anybody received their writers' cheque for the previous run yet? The run before the Ed Previews?

I usually receive mine about 2 weeks after the end of a run.
But now it's the end of the next run.

they're not always that quick Mikey, I think NR's record for late payments is just over a year.

A year? Blimey.

They're probably all still drunk after a month in Edinburgh. :P

OK, week 1 and 2 of the new run...

Ooh - got a song in week one that was bumped in week two.... I think I heard it fall on its arse from here.

I didn't get anything in. Ohhhhh, the shame!

"Q: Who writes the material?

A: The cast, because the stuff we get in from the writers is crap"

Surely in the same way that anyone who appears in the show is part of the cast, anyone comes up with words for the show is a writer? Doesn't stop it seeming an insult though. If you look at Mikey's email above the cast don't really seem to write that much, if that can be believed.

Nice one Griff, I'll whack that on my ipod.

I can see the last show had loads written by the cast - one of the most I've seen. I don't really know how it works insomuch that each run has a different crew, so I wonder if the philosophies change. Fair play though, I've sent off some crap over the years.

Most Illuminating.
Thanks for that Griff, although I would like to echo Griff's point that this is not the normal reaction i, and many others, have had from the Newsrevue cast/crew.
I suppose every once in a while we're going to get a cast who are a little less than appreciative of our efforts, butthat's life.
Now I'm off downtown to have a slap up meal and a few bevvies with the newsrevue cheque of £7.07 they've just sent me.
Money for old crap.

Maybe they've just got a funny cast at the moment.
Which is nice.

I've been to see it twice & only as a writer wanting to see what the style was.
I wonder how many people have put money into the coffers for that reason.

"Q: Who writes the material?

A: The cast, because the stuff we get in from the writers is crap"

I would add that this is the total opposite of the attitude I've had from the Newsrevue team every time I've had any dealings with them - they've always been appreciative, supportive and welcoming, especially those who've been involved with the show long-term. But this interview certainly puts us writers in our place!

Griff I don't get this at all, they're bigging themselves up a little.

But they're not going to say " we're a bunch of impoverished actors who aren't capable of reading the Sun, thank God there's writers with proper jobs too write the words."

You probably earn in a week that they make in a 6.

Though the increase in writers contribs is one of the many things that put me off.

Degree in writing for musical theatre how gay is that?
