I'm sure it's been answered before, but if I've submitted over past week - do I resubmit for new run or would they put them forward for next run if they like them? Ta.

My two penny worth is that it's probably best to send in new stuff, there seems to be enough space here to use new stuff if it's good enough or rude enough, so stuff not used (which also includes my material...) will probably never be used.

In the past they have emailed asking people not to.

If you send to the general inbox it'll get passed on.

My bit in the current run was sent to them in May and not used til late July, so it seems they do look through the old piles of unused material.

I still think you should sub unless told not to. Unless of course you do it every single week, that's going a bit over the top.

What is this general inbox? Have we been submitting to the wrong place?

The general inbox is mail [at] canalcafetheatre.com

It's also best to CC to the director of the run.
This obviously requires you to be on the writers' mailing list, as that's when you receive running orders, material requests and announcements of new directors/runs.

DON'T keep resending stuff every new run. They don't like it.

They DO look through recent submissions, sometimes going back weeks or even months, if they're looking for something in particular.

Obviously, ultra-topical sketches with short shelf lives aren't used again, but general sketches (say, about the economy, pop culture, etc) have the potential to pop up in more than one run.

Several of my sketches have been used again in subsequent runs, (or have made their debut after being rejected by a previous run) one sketch making its comeback almost a year later.

BTW, has anybody received their writers' cheque for the previous run yet? The run before the Ed Previews?

I usually receive mine about 2 weeks after the end of a run.
But now it's the end of the next run.

Mikey - my cheques have tended to either come a couple of weeks after the run, but some have took several months. They've been doing far better recently mind, but I suppose the added paperwork for Edinburgh would cause the delay.

Try as I might, I'm never on the mailing list - they've done my sketches and songs, and I've emailed them a few times but after having them for a year about 2 yrs ago, nowt.

Bit of a thicko question here. I have only sent of a couple of songs as never having seen the show I am not sure of the flavour etc. Can anyone give me an idea of what they want as voice overs? The style etc?

Thanks

Will

Just call David Cameron a c**t. Should stand you in good stead.

Cheers Ben but I was looking for a bit more of a steer with regard to style rather than content. Are they one liners? Done in an announcer style etc?

oi no bogarting my material

They have some one-liners, some quickie sketches, some longer sketches, some songs. The one liners are generally "announcer" style between sketches/songs (allowing the cast to have a quick breather as well)
