Windows XP blue screen b*stard! (help)

So I've got this laptop, a cheap piece of junk I bought off ebay last year and it hasn't got a DVD/CD rom/drive with it and Windows XP messed up and now every time I log on I get a blue screen error, something about a memory dump or sommet, it disappears too quick for me too give it a good read.

I've googled trying to search for the problem and solution and the most common answer is to reinstall Windows, but I ain't gots me a drive to do that?

Any advice or help much appreciated.

Dell Latitude L400
No CD/DVD Drive
1 Network port
No floppy drive
1 USB port.

Not very techie, I heard I could install through network but the instructions on how to were very daunting. Will probably just take it to a repair shop, but would prefer to do it my sen if possible.

Thanks

:)

Best advice is to get it nicked. Know what I mean. Get a crime number then call your insurance company. Know what I mean.

Insurance company?

Laughing out loud

I'm sure Paul can put it in better terms but basically if it keeps happening your RAM is f**ked

Why thank you Adam.

*cough cough* A memory dump blue screen before it loads to windows it MAY have a physical problem with the RAM so Adams on the right track.

As for reinstalling windows I have a dell and I believe most come with a recovery partition if not all. As for accessing it, check Dells site they have loads of info (of course).

But you want my opinion Lee, dump it, it's a terrible laptop, it doesn't even have a CD/DVD drive... It's not worth your trouble mate.

Get a nice HP.

I am too poor to buy new laptops at the moment, I just wouldn't of minded having this "tiny" little thing working for basic internet usage.

Thanks for the help.

Whats the RAM in it? If you do have dodgy RAM, just buy some new and install it (RAMs really cheap) then you can reinstall windows.

this is a good site http://www.computing.net

\systemroot\system32\config\security

I think a registry thing is broked?

Does it load in safe mode?

Not that I'd know what to do if it did :( but it might be a start.

Nope.

Just feels a shame to waste a wee laptop.

Lee, it sounds like there's been some kind of corruption of Windows core files, possibly coupled with or due to a hardware issue. I had similar problems a while back, which turned out that part of the hard drive had died.

So to be honest, Paul's right. The spec is poor. Very, very poor. The cost of repairing it would be prohibitive. I reckon you'd be looking at £100+ at best, and quite frankly you'd be a twat to pay that considering the price and spec of a brand new laptop now.

It sounds like it's had a good life. *pats you on the back* There there, there there.

:( Awwwwww! Give it a funeral. Teary

:(

Ok, thanks Aaron.
