Final Draft Page 7

There's a healthy "all in the same boat" feel around this place. (Usually.) :)

i feel I was my enocuragement for oters to seek out a copy wass very much in speaking of this feel you speak of

Sigh! I can't stand seeing messages where people use clunky Scriptsmart or think they can do a scripting stylesheet in 10 minutes (or seconds)... Or want to use stolen software.

Cheers Bill will have a look at this, I do have FD but rarely use it and tend to overwrite old scripts.

Good man.

:)

Out of interest how many pages does your sitcom template generate for a half hour script?

Cheers Bill, very useful! And congrats to Jacob.

I'm not sure. Using only the right half of the page does use a lot of paper.

I seem to recall Birds of a Feather scripts were typically 80 pages.

============

When a Sitcom script is turned into the final production script, the left half is filled with sound and camera cues.

The format dates back to typewriters & photocopiers designed so that the production team could type-over the blank areas. Not really sure how useful it is as a submission format now that we use computers. In the early 90's when Alomo Productions was active, computers in production teams were just coming in. Yet I found that the Script Editors or Production assistant would prefer to retype the submission script into Wordstar (which is what they used for the final production script), because the act of re-typing it made them familiar with the script.

They used Wordstar even though it was a DOS program and Microsoft Windows and Word had just appeared, because Wordstar was capable of typing a looooong underline for a camera cue in between two dialogue lines. Ironically none of the fancier Windows word processors could do that, and still can't as far as I know.

Wordstar has a keycode for "return the typing point to the beginning of this line without advancing to the next line"

I remember that Michael Jacob (who was then an Alomo Script Editor) used to complain to me about the Sitcom Script format, because it was not "1 minute per page".

:D

Yeah he was always bloody moaning that one. I wonder what ever happened to him?

Unfortunately none of those 80 pages were funny.

Come on, there were probably a few typos? Typos can be funny.

You are of course right, typos can be funny. I'm almost just laughing at the thought of Linda Robson laughing at a typo in one of the scripts as she sucks down yet another fag only to take a breath and make some very poor sexual innuendo.

*'Birds Of A Feather' audience scream with laughter, as if in pain*

I did hear that they were bringing the show back. I would rather rim Linda Robson and Paulie Quirke at the same time (not sure how that is possible) than have the show return.

----------------

Not sure how what started as a thread about what people's opinions were of Final Draft has suddenly turned to a thread about me rimming the cast of Birds of a Feather.

It was all Bill's fault! Whistling nnocently
