Midweek sitcoms

I wanna know why all or most sitcom are either on a Friday or Sunday. I'm talking about the BBC in particular. I'm sure in the olden days there used to be different sitcoms in the same week on different days. So why is it only one 1 is ever on in a current schdule and they are stuck on at Fridays and Sunday (Last Of the Summer Wine). Does anyone else agree there should be more sitcom in the present week like drama's are on BBC1 and ITV?

They recognise that in a multi-channel society, they're more likely to get the viewers if they lump a load of shows together at once.

For example, The Green Green Grass -> HIGNFY -> The Armstrong and Miller Show -> News -> Friday Night with Jonathan Ross (sample from Friday 9th November 2007). That's 3 hours and five minutes of comedy (and news) in one form or another, and people are much more likely to tune in for the whole thing if even just one of the programmes interests them, than they are to tune in to each programme individually during the week.

It's basically just a question of getting and keeping the audience.

I must say though there's an abundance of new drams on though during the week.
