Writing for Newsrevue Page 12

Thanks John mate. When did you receive that running order? What days are the best to submit material?

I got mine last night too. So many people seemed desperate to know that I thought I might as well just stick it here. Hope I don't get in trouble. I know it took months after I started writing for Newsrevue, before I got put on the mailing list.

I'd say the best times to submit to Newsrevue are Monday or Tuesday. But if there's a breaking story, you can also get that in if you're quick enough. Phill Barron's blog, referred to in the thread pinned at the top of this forum, is very helpful about submitting to Newsrevue and Treason. He is strong on the need to get in quick, because if they've started rehearsing someone's else's sketch on the same idea they're very unlikely to take yours, however brilliant. I submitted a sketch on Beadle spoofing St Peter on Thursday, the day after he died, and see that an identical idea was in the running order. They obviously had little time then, as the run started that evening. That was clearly the reason mine was rejected. Couldn't be because the bastard's was better.

Treason Show is only monthly, but they take longer to rehearse, so you need to see when the main Brighton show is taking place, on their website, and ideally submit about two weeks before, when they're got time to rehearse. The nearer to the show, next week this month, the shorter or more brilliant the sketch needs to be. Indeed, their current acknowledgement is specifically requesting only short sketches because they're so pressured.

By the way Tuumble, congratulations, he says through gritted teeth. That's one more sketch than I got in. Now you need to send in more whilst the current lot (they change every six weeks), who obviously like your work, are still there. And for everybody else, only three weeks before another lot come in who are bound to appreciate the geniuses we really are.

I have a couple ideas knocking around that are not quite so time sensitive as the breaking news stories. I'll try and get those off over the next couple days plus a song but that needs some work.

Thanks for the tips - it's an exciting time as I've just been paid for my first article via a writing site. The princely sum of $0.02! :)

Is that Helium by any chance?

It is - have I been sold a kipper or is it worthwhile.

The stuff I submitted are mainly old blog posts and stuff from my journalism coursework a couple of years ago.

It's more than they've paid me.

I'm not sure I can be bothered with them but if you build up a following it could be good.

Like I say I've peppered it with old stuff to see if any sticks. I guess you have to use it regularly and make sure you chose topics people want to read - easier said than done. It can be wonderfully written on a minor interest thing so it doesn't get the traffic.

0.34 cent todate, if you tell me your site I'll look it up and leave postive feedback,

and if you could do the same for me,

I'm sootyj on triond

On amazingtunes.com you can sell your original music tracks at 0.79p per download.

To date I have earned the princely sum of 0p for my efforts so although I'm not in profit I am breaking even. Not bad for a business in it's first year!

:(

Who disabled them?

Some bad shit happened one night, they've never been the same since.

I may be coming to this a little late but I think I'm going to start having a crack at writing some sketches now too. I'm not sure how good they'll be though-- I've always found stand up easier. Does it matter if you submit the exact same sketch to treason as you do to newsrevue?

Hello Matt. I've done that but generally after NR didn't take it up.
