I would recommend that if you get anything performed that at some point you go up to a writers meeting which occasionally happens. Don't go up if you've had nothing performed.....
Because of the way News Revue is structured it really is a good idea to get along to the Canal Cafe, whether or not you've got anything in the running order, to see the show. The performing area is no bigger than a postage stamp - OK, it is bigger than a postage stamp - but nevertheless, it's not a huge space. That way you'll be able to take into account the way you structure your scripts for 4 performers and a piano.
Don’t worry if you find it a bit, well, clicky because that’s exactly what it is in exactly the same way any other place is where you are the newbee. You also get to sit with other writers and if you’ve never been in that kind of an environment before, then you’ll find that an experience in itself.
Money has always been an issue at News Revue but you do get the money - eventually. OK, it comes by snailmail but it does arrive – eventually (have I already said that). Writers meetings are a hit and miss affair but they are, nevertheless, well worthwhile going along to if, for no other reason, than you get to meet other writers and sometimes - sharp intake of breath here - some legends of News Revue like John Random and Terry Franks Newman who have actually made it.
Treason on the other hand do have regular writers meetings which actually help with the writing process. Even if you contribute nothing on the night (highly unlikely) but instead just keep making notes of what’s being talked about around the table, then that ends up being a great sauce of inspiration.
Finally, and this is the important bit, If you have any questions including any money related issue, then ask. It’s a radical approach but it does actually work because just like any other work related situation, don't wait for somebody to come to you because it jut ain't gonna happen.
